Currently Ger is close to finishing a year long challenge of 52 Ironmans in 52 weeks to raise awareness for Mental Health Ireland. To add perspective to the scale of his challenge, 1 Ironman consists of a 3.8km swim, 180km on the bike & a marathon run, you'd be exhausted just thinking about it let alone attempting it.
Ger's motivation stems from personal grief after his brother-in-law Mike tragically took his own life last year. After seeing the incredible work of Mental Health Ireland, Ger was inspired to take on the challenge in a bid to raise much needed funds for the charity. Ger is Currently on week 47 of the challenge & has just 5 Ironmans left to complete.
On episode #051 of the No Shame podcast, Paddy & Ger also discuss how the current homeless situation is a massive factor in the alarming, increasing number of suicides in this country. Depending on whether it's somebody you know, have lost or even if it's something you're suffering from yourself, Depression is an illness that affects nearly everyone in Ireland.
